Stacy's Story |
Hi! I am 26 years old and began ttc in December' 1997. After a year of ttc and failing, my RE decided to do an ultrasound and HSG. It was discovered that I have a bicornuate uterus. My Dr. said without doing surgery, it would be impossible to see how severe it was or if there was also a septum. It was also discovered that I had a 15cm cystic mass on my right ovary. My RE referred me to a Gyn/Oncologist right away and he performed a Laparotomy the following week. The mass turned out to be LMP borderline ovarian cancer. The mass was removed along with 85% of my right ovary and 15% of my left ovary. I was told to stop ttc for 6 months so my body could heal. After the 6 months, we started ttc again. We tried 6 clomid/IUI cycles which all failed. We were just getting ready to start injectables/IUI when they found more cysts. I was told to sit out a cycle to let the cysts dissolve. When I didn't start my period I was afraid something else was wrong. Before my Dr. would give me Provera to jumpstart my period, she requested that I take an HPT. I knew it was a waste of time and money, but I bought one anyways. Imagine our surprise when the test turned up +++++!!! After almost 3 yrs we got pregnant on our own!! My pregnancy went very smoothly and I never had one single problem. My daughter grew completely in my left side of my uterus. The Dr. took a picture of my uterus for me during the C-section. It is slightly heart-shaped on the outside, and there is a septum on the inside that almost completely divides the uterus into two halves. My Dr. also informed us that both of my fallopian tubes are connected to one ovary, the left ovary (the ovary I have the most of). My daughter, Emily Christine, was born at 37wk3d gestation and weighed 6lbs 1oz and was 18 1/4 inches long! The only reason she was induced early is because I had Gestational Diabetes and Toxemia. Otherwise there is no reason to think she would'nt have gone full term! My husband and I thank God every day for giving us our miracle baby and hope to be able to conceive again in a year or so. Our dilemma right now is whether or not to have the uterus corrected. I am leaning towards not fixing it since we have successfully carried a baby to term with no problems. Thank you for listening to my story =) Stacy, Mommy to Emily,
